College Programs

The world at your doorstep...

When you bring my around-the-world slideshow & travel stories to campus, you do more than provide inspiration to an engaged and fascinated audience. You also give your study abroad, women's studies, and communications students the opportunity to take advantage of a valuable resource (see below for suggestions).

My storytelling format is designed with a college audience in mind, educating through humor, insight, and poignant anecdotes of shared humanity and responsibility while inviting a more open view of the world outside our borders.

Of course, I am happy to be involved with publicizing the event,
and provide a range of promotional materials to make your job easier.

Quote from Senior Associate Dean at Hamilton College: "You did a wonderful job...Your presentation was the right balance of adventure, culture, history, and humor...I think you got the creative juices flowing for some will-be travelers. I also saw a number of students who have traveled abroad who were relieved to hear that there is more that can be done. So thank you!"

Making the most of my time on campus

Here are just a few suggestions for opportunities to utilize my expertise:

Dynamic resource for Women's Studies departments and classes

What does it mean for women to travel? What are some of the stereotypes surrounding "adventure" and "travel"? What are the implications of these depictions in literature, history, and the media? How does that impact women and girls? What does it mean for me as a woman to stand up in front of people and say "you can do it too"?

Share tips, stories & inspiration with the Student Outing Club

I've climbed mountains in Ecuador, trekked in Nepal, winter camped in the Adirondacks, ice climbed all over New England (including Katahdin in Maine). I bicycled for five months through the USA and Canada, along the Danube in Austria, and later through the San Juans and Olympic Peninsula. I've sea kayaked in Maine, and am a whitewater kayak instructor with experience paddling all over the eastern USA.

Debriefing session for study abroad students

What could be better for returning study abroad students than to share their experiences with each other - and maybe some future candidates for the program? How about an informal coffee session in the student center?

The life of a professional writer

Introduce your creative writing, journalism, communications, and marketing students to a freelance writer with a marketing and internal communications background. I'm glad to share what I've learned.

Articles, anyone?

As long as I'm there, why don't you have me interview a few study abroad and fellowship students and create a piece featuring your international programs for your alumni or admissions publications?

I'm glad to customize my offerings to your school's needs. Please contact me for a detailed proposal and workshop outline. I look forward to working with you, so don't hesitate to contact me!
